The vision of I-RAMP³ was to enable the European manufacturing industry towards smart manufacturing systems in conventional production.
The project aims at creating innovative solutions in order to improve the competitiveness for this important industry sector. This goal was reached by a novel concept for fast, optimized ramp-up and operation of production lines. By this, significant reduction of time and efforts during the setup and re-configuration of production plants can be reached. At the same time, production costs can be reduced by increasing the efficiency of manufacturing.
Project specific objectives
I-RAMP³ aims at enabling the industry towards zero ramp-up time integration of additional capabilities in existing and new production networks. In order to realize this goal, the project targeted four specific objectives:
• Plug & Produce devices, sensors and actuators with built-in intelligence for fast exchange of components,
• Standardized communication and collaboration mechanisms in heterogeneous production environments,
• Intra- and inter-device optimization models for automated device configuration.
• Enhanced Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) for workflow optimization and production data assessment.
The project started in October 2012 and ended in September 2015. Critical Manufacturing, as a provider of a state-of the art MES, had an important role ensuring that the I-RAMP³ development would be implemented in existing industrial settings. Its main responsibilities were the integration of the MES and to extend its capabilities with I-Ramp3 technology, as well as to develop the workflow optimization module.
